Drug intelligence / Profile preview
[18F]BBPA (also known as BR-02 or [18F]BF3-BPA) is an investigational, unapproved small-molecule radiopharmaceutical and PET tracer. It is a trifluoroborate-derived boronophenylalanine (a bis-boron boramino acid) designed for the positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of primary and metastatic brain tumors, such as gliomas. It acts as a pan-cancer probe, entering cells via the large neutral amino acid transporter type-1 (LAT-1). Because it shares an identical chemical structure with boron carriers used in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) (with the only difference being the fluorine isotope), [18F]BBPA serves as a theranostic agent to estimate tumor boron concentration prior to BNCT. It exhibits rapid clearance, low normal-tissue affinity, and a short elimination half-life.
